Did You Know?
Did you know.....Senior left-hander Jordan Hymel earned the 20th win of his career in the Lions 3-2 series sweeping victory over Northwestern State on Sunday. Hymel, who is 3-2 on the season, moved into 5th place on the school's all-time wins list, tying Wade Miley (2006-08), Wayne Silva (1973-76) and Richard Simon (1970-73). Kenny Lehrmann is SLU's all-time leader with 25 wins.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....Over the last five seasons SLU has the highest overall win total (183) of any Southland Conference school. Also, the Lions own the longest active streak of consecutive winning seasons (six) in the SLC.

Did You Know?
Did you know...Former Lions pitcher Kirk Bullinger was the 1992 Trans America Athletic Conference (now the Atlantic Sun) Tournament MVP.
Bullinger pitched one of the greatest games in program history, leading the Lions to a 11-0 win over Florida International in the opening round of the TAAC tournament. The future major leaguer pitched a complete game shutout, surrendering only one hit and recording 10 strikeouts. SLU would go on to win the 1992 TAAC championship and capture a berth in the Tuscon, AZ Regional.
His one hit performance is still a conference tournament record.

Did You Know?
Did you know...As Jay Artigues enters his eighth season as the Lions skipper, his 240 wins ranks 9th on the Southland Conference All-Time Wins list.
Artigues, who is 240-164 in Hammond, can move into 6th place this season with 20 wins. He would pass Smoke Laval of UL-Monroe (241), Tony Robichaux of McNeese State (244) and Lou St. Amant of UL-Monroe (260).
Texas-San Antonio's Sherman Corbett ranks 5th with 330 wins and the SLC All-Time leader is Lamar's Jim Gilligan with 1,196. Only Gilligan is actively coaching in the SLC.

Did You Know?
Did you know...In the Jay Artigues era (2006 - present) the Lions are 15-8 when facing a Sun Belt Conference opponent. Since 2009 SLU is 14-3 against the Sun Belt. The Lions also hold a nine game winning streak dating back to 2008 against Sun Belt member and in-state rival UL-Lafayette.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....In the last three games vs Mississippi State the Lions have successfully executed a steal of home twice. In Wednesday night's 5-1 win over the Bulldogs, Brock Hebert stole home as Mississippi State attempted to appeal Hebert leaving second base early on a bases loaded sac fly. During the 2010 season Trey Martin scored the winning run in the Lions 6-5 series sweeping victory in Starkville with a straight steal of home.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....Jonathan Pace hit the first home run of the 2012 season in the Lions 12-1 victory over Alcorn State last night. Pace also hit the first home run of the 2011 season in a 8-3 loss at Florida International.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....Casey and Ty Summerlin both hit home runs in a 17-9 victory at Lamar during the 2008 season, becoming the only set of brothers to homer in the same game in program history.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....Cass Hargis (2008-2011) is the only player in program history to hit for the cycle. The Lions All-Time Hit King hit for the cycle in a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at The Pat during the 2009 season. Hargis went 4-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....Brandon Street (2008-09) holds the Southland Conference tournament records for hits and RBI's in a tournament. During the 2008 SLC tournament Street notched 13 hits and 11 RBI's in the Lion's five games, leading them to an appearance in the semi-finals. Oddly enough he was left off of the All-Tournament team.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....SLU utility IF Michael Rutland's father, Ronnie, was a member of the Lions 1975 Division II College World Series team. The 1975 Lions, who finished 3rd nationaly in the final polls, won the NCAA DII South Regional to advance to the World Series.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....In each of his head coaching stops, Jay Artigues holds the school record for wins in a season at each school. Artigues won 46 games in 2001 at Bossier Parish Community College, 46 games in 2005 at Pearl River Community College and 40 games in 2010 at Southeastern.

Did you know.....former Lion Gavin Fingleson (1998-99) holds the record for the highest batting average in the Southland Conference tournament. The SLU Hall of Famer hit .636 (7-11) during the 1999 SLC tournament.

Did you know.....Southeastern owns the 2nd highest win total of all Division 1 schools in the state of Louisiana over the last five years with 178 wins, trailing only LSU who has 211. Rounding out the top five are UL-Lafayette (171), Tulane (169), and Louisiana Tech (148).

Did you know.....with his 201 wins Lions skipper Jay Artigues joins Pat Kenelly (211) and Greg Marten (348) as the only coaches in program history to win 200 games. In his six years in Hammond Artigues has compiled a 201-143 record.

Did You Know?
Did you know.....in 2007 the Lions led the nation (NCAA Division 1) in double plays per game. SLU turned a school record 73 double plays in 55 games, finishing the season with 1.33 double plays per game. The Lions beat out Creighton and Illinois for the lead, as they both finished with 1.26 per game.

Inside Lions Baseball has added a "Did You Know?" feature to its blog. In the feature ILB will provide some facts and figures of SLU Lions baseball history, along with other Lions baseball trivia. Our hope is to provide the Lion Nation with some tidbits that some of our readers may or may not already know.
