The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named SLU junior closer Stefan Lopez to their 2012 preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List. The preseason list for the award that goes to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I college baseball included forty-five players. Lopez and Texas State's Jeff McVaney are the only Southland Conference pitchers on the list.

Did you know.....Cass Hargis (2008-2011) is the only player in program history to hit for the cycle. The Lions All-Time Hit King hit for the cycle in a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at The Pat during the 2009 season. Hargis went 4-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Recently SLU coach Jay Artigues ran into Bruce from the show "Swamp People" in Hammond. Maybe if coach lets Bruce throw out the first pitch at The Pat one game, Bruce will let coach ride in his boat and wrestle an aligator one episode.

The 2012 edition of SLU Lions baseball will be introduced to the public on Friday February 3rd at the annual spring banquet to be held at Twelve Oaks on the Southeastern campus. Doors open at 6pm. Individual tickets for the banquet are $25 and will allow fans an opportunity to meet and dine with the team.

The perception is if you are not from a BCS conference school you can not compete with the big boys. But the reality is a mid-major program like Southeastern is not only competing with the big boys, but passing them up.

College Sports Madness named three Lions to their 2012 Pre-Season All-Southland Conference team. Junior RHP Stefan Lopez was named to the 1st team. Junior IF Brock Hebert and senior IF Jonathan Pace were both named to the 2nd team.

The SLU Lion baseball team arrived back in Hammond on Sunday to begin their quest for a Southland Conference title and the program's first NCAA Regional appearance since 1994. The first day back on campus saw the Lions go through meetings and get back into the swing of things from the fall.

Did you know.....Brandon Street (2008-09) holds the Southland Conference tournament records for hits and RBI's in a tournament. During the 2008 SLC tournament Street notched 13 hits and 11 RBI's in the Lion's five games, leading them to an appearance in the semi-finals. Oddly enough he was left off of the All-Tournament team.
