CBF Names Janway to Pitcher of the Year Watch List

The College Baseball Foundation recently announced that Southeastern sophomore RHP Josh Janway has been named to their Pitcher of the Year Watch List. The Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented in Lubbock, TX on July 2 as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.

Boudreaux Named to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

Sophomore SS Justin Boudreaux has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, the College Baseball Foundation recently announced. The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop. The winner will be announced on July 2 at the College Baseball Awards Show in Lubbock, TX.

Worth Mentioning...

Lions - Cowboys Postponed

Due to the “threat” of rain in the Lake Charles area game 2 of the SLU vs McNeese weekend series has been postponed. The teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11:00am.

The game was originally scheduled for 3:00 and was moved up to 1:00 in order to beat the rain. As of 2:30 there is no rain to be found.

Lions Take Game 1 from Cowboys

The #17th ranked SLU baseball team ran its winning streak to six games as it beat Southland Conference foe McNeese State 6-5 in Lake Charles Friday night. The Lions move to 17-1 on the season and 4-0 in the SLC.

Junior RHP Brandon Efferson has been named the Southeastern Male Student Athlete of the week for the week of March 15. 

Lions Run Record to 16-1

The #17 ranked SLU Lions moved to 16-1 on the season with their 9-4 victory over in-state rival UL-Lafayette in Lafayette. With the win the Lions extend their winning streak over the Ragin Cajuns to 5 games. This is the second consecutive season that SLU has swept the season series.

Lions vs UL-Lafayette Game Time 6pm

The Southeastern vs UL-Lafayette game has been moved up to 6 pm.  Tickets can be purchased at the game for $8 each.  Sections A & A1 have been reserved for Lions fans so be sure to ask for those sections.  The seats are located behind the visitors dugout.

After sweeping UTSA the Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Div 1 poll ranks the Lions at #17 in the nation, a rise from #26 last week.

Lock Down Pitching Clinches Series Win for Lions

A great pitching performance by Brandon Efferson and Josh Janway propelled the #26 ranked SLU Lions to a 2-0 series clinching victory over the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday at “The Pat”. With the win the Lions improve to 14-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. It was the fourth straight series win for the Lions this year.

Well well well. What did you expect? When SLU and UTSA meet in a Southland Conference show down you know there will be plenty of hits, there will be a knockout blow and 1 run will decide the game.

Former Lion Great Gets Big League Win

Congratulations to former Lion closer Chris Province who picked up a win on the mound Tuesday in a Major League spring training game for the Minnesota Twins. Chris was drafted out of Southeastern by the Boston Red Sox in the 2007 MLB draft and traded to the Twins this off season. Chris ranks 2nd in school history to current Lion closer Chris Franklin in career saves.

Southeastern ran its record to 12-1 as they beat the Southern Jaguars at Lee-Hines Field in Baton Rouge Tuesday night. The Lions capped off an impressive start to the 2010 season as they head into conference play this weekend against Texas-San Antonio at the “The Pat”.

Lions Move Up in This Week’s Rankings

The Southeastern Lions moved up three spots in this weeks Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll and now sit at #26 in the national rankings. The Lions finished the week 4-1 and won their 3rd straight weekend series.

Streak Comes to a Halt as Lions Lose in 12 Innings

During their record setting 11 game winning streak the #29 ranked SLU Lions have found a way to deliver a knockout punch to their opponent. On Sunday afternoon at “The Pat” the Lions couldn’t find a way to deliver the knockout punch. Texas Southern, however, delivered the knockout as a Ray Hernandez bases loaded triple gave the Tigers a 6-1 victory. The loss drops the Lions to 11-1 on the season.

Lions Win…Sets School Record

Riding a 10 game winning streak to start the season, the #29 ranked Southeastern Lions took advantage of three Texas Southern errors and beat the Tigers 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. With the win the Lions move to 11-0 on the season and sets the school record for most consecutive wins, passing the 1964 and 1997 teams. The victory also gives SLU its 3rd straight series win this year.

Perfect 10!!!

With their 14-8 win over the Texas Southern Tigers on Friday night at Alumni Field, the #29 ranked SLU Lions moved their season record to 10-0. Their 10 wins, already the best start in school history, tie them for the longest winning streak in school history with the 1964 and 1997 teams.

The Cooking Club has had great interest again this year, however there are some games still left to fill. Rivals.com Calls Lions "Red Hot"

Rivals.com has recently mentioned the SLU Lions as one of the country’s “Red Hot” teams and gives Lions skipper Jay Artigues some props for the job he is doing in Hammond. Not often does SLU get mentioned in the same breath as Oklahoma, Louisville, TCU, and UCLA. But with their nine game winning streak to start the season and their 29th ranking in the national polls the national spotlight is starting to shine on Hammond.

SLU Knocks Off Cajuns, Franklin Sets Record

The #29 ranked Southeastern Lions remained unbeaten as they beat the ULL Ragin Cajuns 11-4 at Alumni Field to move to 9-0 on the season. With the win the Lions have now beaten their in-state rivals 4 straight times.

Gough-Fortenberry is Recognized by LSWA

Freshman catcher Chad Gough-Fortenberry has been named the Hitter of the Week by the LA Sports Writers Association.  The Northshore High School product had a hot bat this past weekend hitting  over .500 in the series sweep of SEC contender MS State.  Congrats Chad!

Lions Remain Undefeated, "Walk" over JSU

The #29 ranked Southeastern Lions improved to 8-0 on the year with an 18-2, seven inning victory over Jackson State on a very cold night at Alumni Field on Tuesday. 

SLU Named Mid-West Team of the Week by College Baseball Today

College Baseball Today has named the #29 ranked Southeastern Lions its Mid-West region team of the week, beating out the University of Texas for the honor.  SLU was named the team of the week for their 15-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday and their series sweep at Mississippi State of the SEC over the weekend.  Eric Sorenson, who selects the teams of the week, said "If I had a team of the week for the nation it would SLU as well".  You can checkout the entire article by clicking the link below.

Coming off of one of their most impressive weekend series in school history, the #29 ranked SLU Lions will face Jackson State at Alumni Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm. The Lions swept Mississippi State on the road in Starkville, MS to earn their first ever sweep over a SEC school. With the sweep the Lions moved to 7-0 on the season and are ranked #29 by Collegiate Baseball News.

Congratulations to junior catcher, Josh Cryer who was named to the 2010 Coleman Company - Johnny Bench Award Watch List.  Cryer is one of 53 catchers across the U.S. to be watched.

Lions Moving Up the Ranks

The 2010 Lion baseball team is taking steps in the right direction...up the polls!
After sweeping MS State this past weekend, this years squad becomes the first team in school history to enter the National Collegiate Baseball poll.  The Lions entered the ranking at no. 29 and are the only Southland Conference team listed in the top 30.
