Just What the Doctor Ordered

After being in a funk for the last two weeks the Lions got just what the doctor ordered.   A breakout TEAM win.  SLU got solid pitching, timely hits, and played error free defense in their 11-0 win over the University of New Orleans on Tuesday night at "The Pat".  With the win the Lions improve to 17-9 on the season as they welcome SLC rival Lamar to Hammond for a crucial conference series this weekend.

Recap: SLU vs Southern

Officially it will go down as a 9-0 forfeit win for the Lions over Southern.  Although Southern was leading 2-1 in the top of the 8th inning when play was suspended due to lightning, because Southern refused to take the field when play was to resume they officially forfeited the game.

Lions Get Forfeit Win Against Southern

It will go down as the most bizarre win in Southeastern history.  Trailing 2-1 with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the 8th Jonathan Pace was at the plate with no outs when the umpires halted the action due to lightning in the area.

Lions Take One on the Chin, Drop Series to UCA

The SLU Lions went on the road to Conway, AR and picked up a 6-5 win over Central Arkansas on Friday but ended up on the wrong side of the score on Saturday and Sunday.  In game two on Saturday UCA won 5-4 on a walk off error in the bottom of the 12th inning.  On Sunday the Bears won the rubber match beating the Lions 16-5 in seven innings.

Baseball Reunion Set for April 2nd

The annual Southeastern baseball reunion is set for April 2 with a "picnic lunch" in the parking garage beginning at 12 noon. Pre-game presentations of all former players will be on the field about 1:40 p.m. Southeastern will face Southland Conference rival Lamar in a 2 p.m. contest.

The SLU Lions got off to a sluggish start on Tuesday but finished strong in their 11-5 win over the UNO Privateers, running their record to 14-7 on the season and winning their 2nd consecutive game.

Cowboys Take Series From SLU

Coming off a weekend where the SLU bats and pitchers dominated UTSA for a series sweep, the Lions were on the other side of the spectrum against McNeese State on Friday and Saturday.  In Friday's game the Cowboys put up five runs in the first three innings and finished the game with 11 hits, as they didn't look back in their 8-4 win.  Offensively the Lions could not get anything going, as they stranded eight runners.

Big First Inning Halts Lions Streak

A seven run first inning for the Tulane Greenwave proved too much for the Lions to overcome, as their four game winning streak was snapped in their 7-3 loss to the Wave on Tuesday night in New Orleans.  The two big blows the Wave delivered in the inning were a two run double and a three run home run.

Lions Sweep UTSA

Over the weekend the SLU Lions went on the road and did a little house cleaning as they swept UTSA in the opening weekend of Southland Conference play.  The Lions looked impressive in all phases of the game the entire weekend.

Efferson Named SLC Pitcher of the Week

Senior RHP Brandon Efferson has been named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance on Friday night against UTSA.

Dominance Over ULL Continues for Lions

The SLU Lions made it six straight victories over in-state rival UL-Lafayette, as they beat the Ragin Cajuns 7-5 on Wednesday night at "The Pat", running their record to 9-4 on the season.  The Lions are now 4-1 against the Sun Belt Conference during the 2011 season.

Harkensee Named LSWA Hitter of the Week

Senior OF Jeff Harkensee was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Hitter of the Week for his performance this past week.  Harkensee hit .500 and hit safely in all four games.  The Arlington Heights, IL native was 8-16 with 2 2B, HR, and 10 RBI.  Harkensee was also named honorable mention Hitter of the Week by the Southland Conference.

Manic Monday, Lions Fall In Extra Innings

After playing "Lions Baseball" on Sunday and picking up two wins over Sacred Heart, on Monday night SLU struggled to get timely hits as they went 2-15 with runners in scoring position.  The Lions stranded 12 runners on the night as they fell 5-3 to the Pioneers in 10 innings and splitting the four game series.  Matt Pittari, Jacob Ott, and Stefan Lopez combined surrendered 5 runs on 12 hits and struck out 12 Pioneers.  Pittari, getting his first collegiate start, and Lopez had five K's each.

Lions Take Two on Sunday

It was back to playing "Lions Baseball" on Sunday as SLU swept the double header from Sacred Heart, winning game one 10-0 and game two 11-3 to run their record to 8-3 on the season.  The Lions were the aggressor in all phases of the game all evening.

Lions Rally Falls Short

On a windy and rainy night at "The Pat" the SLU Lions dug themselves a hole that in the end they couldn't get out of as they fell to Sacred Heart 9-8.  The Pioneers put good swings on the ball all night (you could tell they have been locked up in the batting cages with the cold temps up north) racking up 15 hits and taking a 8-3 lead by putting up five runs in the top of the 4th inning.

LSWA Honors Efferson

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association named senior RHP Brandon Efferson as their Pitcher of the Week for the first two weeks of the season.  Efferson has started the season with two impressive outings against Florida International and Alabama.  The Zachary, LA native is 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA to go along with 14 strike outs over 14 innings of work.  Efferson has 18 career wins, which ranks 8th best in SLU history. 

Sloppy Defensive Play Dooms Lions

Southeastern's sloppy defensive play proved to much to overcome as the Lion's six errors led to six unearned runs in their 7-3 loss to LSU on Tuesday night.  With the loss SLU snapped a five game winning streak and falls to 6-2 on the season.  Next up for the Lions is a four game series against Sacred Heart on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  First pitch for Friday is 1:00pm.

SLC Names Boudreaux Hitter of the Week

Junior SS Justin Boudreaux was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for his performance this past week.  JBoo, who was named MVP of the South Alabama Classic, went 8-17 with 2 2B and 2 HR in wins over Tulane, Alabama, Central Florida, and South Alabama.  His week was highlighted by his 4-5 day against UCF, where he homered and drove in 4 runs.

Lions sophomore closer Stefan Lopez was named honorable mention SLC Pitcher of the Week.  Lopez picked up two saves over the weekend, as he allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out 4 in 4.2 innings of work.
