From the Dugout with Tyler Watkins

Tyler Watkins

To get an inside look at what it is like to be a member of the 2011 Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team, ILB has asked senior RHP Tyler Watkins to write a weekly journal giving the Lion Nation a behind the scenes look at one of the top programs in the Southland Conference.

Watkins, who finished the 2010 season with a 6-3 record and 1 save, led the Lions pitching staff with a 3.80 ERA and 90 innings pitched. His 59 strikeouts ranked 2nd on the team.

The 6'5 Watkins, who hails from Petal, MS, came to SLU by way of Pearl River Community College. During his Sophomore season at PRCC Watkins went 8-5 with a 1.76 ERA and recorded 81 strikeouts with only 20 walks in 81.0 innings pitched.

Watkins prepped at Mississippi baseball power Petal High, where he played for his father Larry (who was recently named the 2010 National High School Coach of the Year).  At Petal High Watkins was named 1st team All-District, All-Area, and 6A All-State.  During his senior season he went 10-2 with a 1.23 ERA in a school record 23 appearances, on his way to being named district MVP.
