Senior 3B Josh Cryer was recently named a 2nd Team Academic All-American on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cryer becomes the first baseball player in SLU history and the 13th overall SLU student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors.
The Leesville, LA native, who graduated Summa Cum Laude in accounting, is a three-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, was awarded the Southland Conference's F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship, and is a seven-time member of the Southeastern President's List. Cryer is also a two-time Academic All-Southland Conference selection, the 2009-10 SLC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and is a three-time President of the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
On the diamond Cryer finishes his career ranking 3rd in school history in hits (229), doubles (48), and at-bats (760). He is tied for 4th in RBIs (148) and is the school leader in hit by pitches (76).
