Week in Review - 2013 Week Five

Solid Gold Sundays are becoming the norm at The Pat this season, as the Lions completed their third weekend series sweep and move to 14-6 on the season.  The Lions got solid pitching all weekend and put up one the most explosive offensive performances in the Jay Artigues era against SWAC member Arkansas-Pine Bluff. 

SLU won Friday night 14-1 racking up 19 hits.  On Saturday the Lions were held to seven hits, however Harry Slade launched a walk-off two run home run giving the Lions a 4-3 victory.  On Solid Gold Sunday the Lions completed the sweep of UAPB winning 17-1.  In mid-week action SLU split a pair of games with rival Tulane.  The Lions won 7-4 on Tuesday at The Pat and Tulane won in extra innings 3-2 in New Orleans on Wednesday night.  SLU starts Southland Conference play this weekend as they travel to Northwestern State.

Notes:
Harry Slade's walk-off two run HR against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday was his second walk-off hit as a Lion.  Last season Slade knocked a two run single into right field to give the Lions a 6-5 victory over Indiana State on opening weekend.

Jameson Fisher launched his first career home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  The freshman from Zachary High School hit a solo shot, as he went 2-3 on the day.

Tanner Rainey's two run home run in the Lions 17-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday was his first career home run.  Rainey finished the day 3-5 with a double, HR, 2 RBI's and a run scored.

In the weekend series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff the Lions scored 38 runs and racked up 42 hits, as they held UAPB to five runs on 19 hits.  In Friday night's 14-1 win every SLU starter collected a hit, with five starters having a multi-hit game.  Jesse Buratt led the way at the plate going 4-5 with a 2B, 3B and 2 RBI's.  On Sunday the Lions put up 16 hits, as seven starters recorded a hit.  Ben Hernandez, Tanner Rainey, Kyle Cedotal and Sam Roberson each notched two hits.

SLU is 10-0 at The Pat this season, outscoring their opponents 82-25.

With the Lions 7-4 victory over Tulane Tuesday night at The Pat, SLU moves to 6-1 when  playing the Green Wave in Hammond since the rivalry was renewed during the 2007 season.  SLU's defeat came last year as Tulane won 7-2.  In the seven games played at The Pat the Lions have outscored Tulane 53-37. 

With their 4-1 week the Lions move up three spots to number 10 in this week's College Baseball Daily Mid-Major Top 25.

Leader Board - Sean Kennel ranks 2nd in the Southland Conference with a 1.56 ERA.  Tate Scioneaux ranks 9th in opponents batting average (.210) and 6th in strike outs (32).  Dylan Hills is 2nd in the SLC with four saves and John Gremillion ranks 6th with two saves.  For the hitters Harry Slade ranks 8th in hitting (.361), 4th in hits (26), 6th in RBI's (16), 10th in total bases (34) and 3rd in stolen bases (8).  Aaron Haag's 18 RBI's ranks 3rd.  Jameson Fisher and Corey Bryan rank 7th with five hit by pitches, as Ben Hernandez and Sam Roberson rank 2nd with five sac bunts.

Southland Strong - Central Arkansas (17-3) is ranked in the three major polls: USA Today Coaches Poll (24), Collegiate Baseball (30) and Baseball America (23).  Lamar, sitting at 18-3, has the 3rd most wins in the country after five weeks and is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.  Sam Houston and SLU have flirted with polls all season.
