Week in Review - 2013 Week Three

For the third straight weekend it was a Solid Gold Sunday for the SLU Lions.  And for the second time in three weekends it ended in a series sweep.  The Lions, taking advantage of some needed rest with no mid-weeks games, swept Texas Southern moving their record to 8-2 on the year.  SLU won Friday night 5-3 and wrapped up their third series win of the year with a 7-6 victory over the Tigers on Saturday.  On Solid Gold Sunday Jordan Hymel pitched the 4th no-hitter in school history, as the the Lions won 9-0 to sweep their second series of the season.

Notes
No Means No - Senior LHP Jordan Hymel pitched the 4th no-hitter in school history leading the Lions to a series sweeping 9-0 win over Texas Southern.  Hymel, with his first career complete game, kept the Tiger hitters off balance all day.  The Gramercy, LA native gave up no runs on no hits and struck out seven.  Oddly enough he walked six batters and hit another but never got rattled, as he cruised to his first win of the season.

Haag-A-Bomb - No, its not the new drink special of Wise Guys Daiquiris (although it would be pretty cool if they gave free shots every time Aaron Haag hit a home run).  Lions 1B Aaron Haag launched his first career home run as a Lion, a two run blast over the scoreboard in LF in SLU's 9-0 victory on Sunday.  On the day Haag was 3-4 with two doubles, a HR and seven RBI's.

Streaking - "Harry Baseball" extended his hitting streak to 10 games, hitting safely in all three contest this weekend. Slade went 1-3 with a walk on Friday night, 1-4 with a walk on Saturday and 1-3 with a walk and RBI on Sunday.

Three's Company - Freshman C/DH Jameson Fisher recorded his first multi-hit game as a Lion, notching three hits in the Lions Friday night 5-3 victory over Texas Southern.  Fisher was 3-4 with a double and two RBI's.  Sophomore IF Brett Hoffman picked up three hits in the Lions 7-6 win on Saturday.  Hoffman, getting his 1st career three hit game, was 3-4 with two RBI's.

Leader Board - In the Southland Conference offensive statistics Slade ranks 2nd in hitting (.444) and on-base percentage (.512) and 5th in slugging (.528).  Haag ranks 3rd in RBI's with 13 and Sam Roberson's three sacrifice bunts ranks 4th.  Fisher and Corey Bryan rank 4th with four hit by pitches apiece. On the mound Sean Kennel is 8th in the league with a 1.74 ERA.  Tate Scioneaux ranks 9th in strikeouts with 17 and Hymel is 10th with 16 punch outs.  Out of the bullpen Dylan Hills ranks 2nd with three saves.
