Fingleson to Enter Southeastern Hall of Fame

Former Lion baseball great Gavin Fingleson will be enshrined into the Southeastern Louisiana University Athletics Hall of Fame during halftime of the Lions football game against Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.

Fingleson, who played for the Lions during the 1998 and 1999 seasons, ranks number one on the Southeastern career batting average list with a career .370 batting average. During the 1998 season Fingleson led the team in hitting with a .367 average to go along with 87 total hits. During the 1999 season he led the team with a .373 batting average, 97 total hits, and 54 runs scored. His 97 hits in 1999 and his 87 hits in 1998 ranks 1st and 2nd in single season hits. His 184 total hits ranks 6th on the Lions All-Time hits list. Fingleson also hit a record .636 during the 1999 Southland Conference Tournament going 7-11.

The two time All-Southland Conference selection was also named to the 1998 LSWA team and the 1999 ABCA All-Region team. Fingleson, who is a native of Sydney, Australia, was a member of the Australian National team that won a Silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games. He also participated in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
