NCBWA Names Lions Closer Pre-Season All-American

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Chris Franklin was named a 2nd team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the organization announced today.

The Lions senior closer posted a record breaking campaign in 2009, where he posted a 5-2 record with a 2.60 ERA. The Oneonta, AL native set the Southeastern single season saves record by shutting the door on 12 opponents.
Franklin who is second in career saves, broke the previous record of 8 set by current Minnesota Twins prospect Chris Province. Franklin held opponents scoreless in 18 of 24 relief appearances and only worked more than one inning in 12 outings.

With Franklin’s record setting performance he was named a 2009 3rd team All-American and Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference. Franklin needs to record 2 saves in 2010 to become the Lions career leader in saves.
