From the Dugout with Tyler Watkins - Journal #1

Tyler Watkins
To get an inside look at what it is like to be a member of the 2011 Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team, ILB has asked senior RHP Tyler Watkins to write a weekly journal giving the Lion Nation a behind the scenes look at one of the top programs in the Southland Conference.  To read all of Tyler's weekly journals you can click on his picture on the left menu.

Here is journal #1 for the 2011 season.  Enjoy!

Well it’s that time of the year again Lion Nation, baseball season is right around the corner! We had our first team practice of the spring this morning. Yes, you read that right, MORNING! While most people our age were in bed sleeping, the Lion baseball team was up and at em’ with weights at 6 a.m. and practice starting at 10 a.m. The practice started off with the “first pitch” thrown out by our video extraordinaire and resident flame thrower Todd Dunnington, who threw a perfect strike to catcher Josh Cryer to start the spring off right. Practice picked up right where we left off in the fall and was one of the smoothest first practices I’ve ever been involved with. Everyone had a ton of energy and was flying around all over the place. 1B/DH Joe “Bear” Sparacino practiced so hard he even ripped his pants! The long morning and practice ended with Coach Artigues deciding we looked a little flabby and needed a little extra conditioning. All I know is that with a few more practices like that utility player Michael Rutland is going to have a six-pack of abs that rivals his role model Mike “The Situation” from the TV show Jersey Shore. All in all, it was a great practice on a perfect day to start baseball season. Now it’s time for me to kick back and relax with some of the guys and rest for the remainder of the day.

Just a reminder to all of you Lion MANEiacs we have an intra-squad tomorrow (Saturday) morning starting at 11:15.

GO GREEN

GO GOLD

GO LIONS
