The SLU Lions were picked to finish 2nd by a vote of both the league's coaches and sports information directors in the 2013 Southland Conference preseason polls, which were released Wednesday. Sam Houston State, the defending SLC champs, were picked to win the conference in both polls. In the coaches' poll the Bearkats received the maximum nine first place votes and 81 points. SLU picked up the final first place vote from the coaches and 68 points.
In the SID's poll Sam Houston picked up four first place votes and 75 points, as the Lions received three first place votes and 72 points. SLC newcomer Oral Roberts picked up the three remaining first place votes and 71 points. The predicted order of finish was the same in both polls as Stephen F Austin, Central Arkansas, Lamar, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, McNeese State, Northwestern State, and Nicholls State rounded out the ten spots.
SLU opens the 2013 season on February 15th as they take on UT-Martin at The Pat.
