Ground Breaking Ceremony Planned for Hitting Facility

The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team will be hosting a ground breaking ceremony for their new hitting facility on Thursday February 3 at 1:00pm.  The ceremony will take place behind the left field wall at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field (The Pat), which is where it will be located. 

A special thanks goes out to Mr. and Mrs. John Poteet for their generous donation, as well as the Lion Athletic Association (LAA).

Sunday's Intra-Squad Time Change

The Sunday intra-squad that was originally scheduled for 3:15pm has been moved up to 9:15am to beat the rain that is forcasted to hit the Hammond area.

Intra-Squads Slated for this Weekend

The 2011 edition of SLU Baseball kicks off it's first full team practices of the season on Friday January 28.  Coach Jay Artigues and his Lions will also be hosting two intra-squad games this weekend.   

Intra-squad schedule is as follows:

Saturday January 29 at 11:15am
Sunday January 30 at 3:15pm

All practices/intra-squad games are free and open to the public. PLEASE REMEMBER TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Lions Picked 2nd; 3 Named Pre-Season All SLC

The 2011 Southeastern Louisiana Lions have been picked to finish 2nd in the Southland Conference behind 2 time defending champ Texas State, the league announced on Tuesday.  Texas State was picked to the win the SLC and SLU was picked second followed by Lamar, Northwestern State, and Stephen F. Austin in the coaches' poll.  In a poll of the league's Sports Information Directors Texas State and SLU were picked one and two followed by Northwestern State, Lamar, and Stephen F. Austin.

College Baseball Today "Power" Rankings

You know the start of the college baseball season is just around the corner when all of the national publications and internet sites begin their pre-season specials.  In the college baseball world Eric Sorenson of College Baseball today is the man when it comes to pre-season college baseball hype.  Today the Stich-Head himself put together a power ranking of all 300 Division I baseball teams.

Season Tickets On Sale

With 27 days left until opening day in college baseball it is now time to reserve your seats at "The Pat" for the 2011 season.  Get your tickets early because they will go fast, as the Lions will be facing the toughest schedule in school history with one of the most talented teams in school history.

Baseball America Ranks Miley as D-Backs #8 Prospect

Former SLU Lion Wade Miley was recently ranked the number eight overall prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization by Baseball America.  The LHP pitcher from Loranger, LA is also projected to be the 5th starter in the D-Backs rotation for the 2014 MLB season.

Diamond Club Meeting Changed

The Diamond Club meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday January 18 has been moved to Thursday January 18 at 6:00pm.  The meeting will be held at Murphy's Seafood in Hammond. Be sure to be there as head coach Jay Artigues and his staff will give updates on the cooking club, the pre-season baseball banquet, and give a preview of the upcoming 2011 season.

Lions are Kings of the Jungle!

While most students were resting over the holiday break, members of the baseball program were visiting family, enjoying home cooked meals, conditioning, and finding some time to play in the woods.

Making the Grade...AGAIN!

Southeastern Louisiana University head baseball coach Jay Artigues is still smiling.  Not because his Lions return all eight position players and five of his top six pitchers from a team that won 40 games a year ago.  And not because his beloved New Orleans Saints are back in the playoffs defending their 1st Super Bowl  Championship.
