It was not pretty but the statement was clear. The SLU baseball program does not play second fiddle to ULL in south Louisiana. For the eighth straight time the Lions defeated their in-state rival, as they capitalized on Ragin Cajun miscues winning 6-5 on Wednesday night at The Pat. The Lions moved to 4-0 on the season, as ULL drops to 1-3. The Ragin Cajuns last victory against SLU came on March 5, 2008.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lions did their damage with only one hit. ULL issued four walks, committed two errors, and allowed a two run single by Harry Slade in giving up five unearned runs. The Ragin Cajuns answered with two runs in the 5th and one each in the 6th and 7th, but it wasn't enough as Brock Hebert lead off the home half of the 6th with a double. He would eventually score on a Slade sac fly to LF giving the Lions all runs they would need. Stefan Lopez, who hails from the Lafayette area, earned his second save of the season. Lopez now has 12 career saves, one shy of tying Chris Province for 2nd All-Time.
