Southland Coaches Pick Lions 2nd, SID's 3rd

Just to give you an idea of how far the SLU baseball program has come since Jay Artigues took over in 2006.  The Lions lost eight players who made up the winningest class (144 wins) in program history to graduation, including the all-time hits leader, the single season doubles leader, the Louisiana Pitcher of the Year, and a pitcher who collected the second most wins in school history.  And let us not forget SS Justin Boudreaux signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, after being selected in the 14th round of the MLB draft.  In all, the 2012 Lions need to replace six position players and two of their weekend starters from 2011.

With that being said, SLU has been picked to finish 2nd in the Southland Conference behind Texas State in the 2012 coaches poll.  In the Sports Information Directors poll the Lions were picked 3rd behind Texas State and Stephen F Austin.  I think is safe to say the SLU program has risen to a level where they can say we do not rebuild, we reload.

Texas State, who is going for their 4th consecutive SLC title in their last year in the conference, was a unanimous pick in both polls.  Rounding out the top five in the coaches poll was Stephen F Austin, UTSA, and Sam Houston.  In the SID's poll the top five also included UTSA and Lamar.
