The SLU Lions wore their solid gold uniforms on Sunday as they looked to sweep the weekend series over Eastern Illinois. Mission accomplished. The Lions (7-0) finished off the Panthers (1-4) with a great pitching performance by senior Josh Janway in a 1-0 victory at The Pat. Janway, who pitched a career high 7.2 innings, allowed only three hits and struck out seven.
In a game where runs were hard to come by, the Lions were able to scratch one across in the 6th inning. Brock Hebert led off the inning with a double. After Ben Hernandez moved him third with a sac bunt, Harry Slade drove Hebert home with a single to left field. It would be all the runs SLU would need. Stefan Lopez picked up his 4th save of the season and his 14th of his career, moving into 2nd place on the SLU All-Time Saves list.
The 7-0 start for the Lions is the 2nd best start in school history. The 2010 team begin the season 11-0.
