Journey to Omaha Begins Today

College World Series - Rosenblatt Staduim in Omaha, NE

The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team will gather for the first time this spring when the players report to Hammond for a team meeting this evening. The team meeting will serve as a way for the players and coaches to refocus and pick up where they left off in the fall and begin their preparations for their journey through the 2010 season. A journey that the Lions want to end in late June in Omaha.

Coach Jay Artigues returns 6 starters and 7 pitchers from the 2009 squad that finished with a 37-22 record and a semi-final appearance in the Southland Conference tournament. The 2009 Lions also finished with a school record 21 conference wins and narrowly missed out on a NCAA Regional berth. It was the third straight 30 plus win season for Artigues in his 4 years as the Lion skipper.

As the Lions move into year five of the Artigues era the expectation in Hammond is a NCAA Regional appearance. With the momentum from the 2009 season and the excitement that was displayed by the Lions in the fall world series it appears the 2010 edition of Lions Baseball is ready to start their journey on the road to Omaha.
