“Can’t Miss” Games for the 2010 Season

Today Inside Lions Baseball takes a look at the Southeastern Louisiana University “Can’t Miss” games for the 2010 season. These are games that the Lion Nation should look forward to attending as you do not want miss the action.

February 19-21 - Eastern Illinois - Alumni Field
The Lions face Eastern Illinois on opening weekend to kickoff the 2010 season. If anything, you have to be there for opening weekend. There is just something special about the first weekend of the college baseball season. Southeastern has opened each of the last two seasons against the defending Ohio Valley Conference champs. In 2008 SLU swept the Panthers as the Panthers took two out of three from the Lions last season.

February 26-28 - at Mississippi State - Dudy Noble Field in Starkville, MS
Southeastern travels to tradition rich SEC power Mississippi State to face the Bulldogs in a weekend series. The Lions will be looking to make a statement on the national scene as they visit one of the toughest venues in college baseball.

March 3 - Louisiana-Lafayette - Alumni Field
Always an intense match-up as the Lions and Cajuns look to gain bragging rights in south Louisiana. SLU is currently on a three game winning streak as they have won 3 of the last 4 games against the Cajuns.

March 12-14 UT-San Antonio - Alumni Field
Be there wearing your green and gold and making as much noise as possible when the Lions open Southland Conference play against the UTSA Roadrunners. Last season the Roadrunners won the series 2 games to 1 as the teams combined to score 63 runs over the weekend. This season the Lions look to return the favor and start off the conference slate with a series win.

March 30 - Tulane - Alumni Field
Southeastern takes on the Green Wave as the Lions look to keep the Senators Cup in Hammond. Last season SLU won games one and two to clinch the cup as Tulane won game three. Over the last three seasons the Lions are 5-4 against Tulane winning 2 of the 3 three game series. This season there will be only 2 games in the series. (As a note wear gold when the Lions play Tulane.)

April 1-3 - at Lamar - Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont, TX
This is one road trip you must make. It is only a 4 hour drive to Beaumont from Hammond and this series will be worth making. SLU vs. Lamar is fast becoming one of the top rivalries in the Southland Conference. There are always fireworks when these two teams meet as each team has won 7 of the last 14 games.

April 14 - Alabama - Alumni Field
The Alabama Crimson Tide, a SEC heavyweight, will be lead by former Northwestern State coach Mitch Gaspard as they roll into Alumni Field for a mid-week contest. The Lions will look to shut down Alabama’s big bats, as the Crimson Tide was one of the nation’s leading homerun hitting teams last season.

April 16-18 - Texas State - Alumni Field
Alumni Field needs to be ROCK’N this weekend as this could be a crucial conference series that puts one of these teams in the driver seat. The Bobcats are the defending SLC champs and will come to Hammond with some swagger. Last season the Lions were swept by Texas State in San Marcos and the Bobcat fans definitely gave the home team a distinct advantage. Its payback time now and the Lion Nation needs to rise to the occasion.

May 4 - at LSU - Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, LA
Southeastern will head to “The Box” to take on the defending National Champs as they look to avenge last seasons 6-5 loss in Baton Rouge. A loss that saw the Lions out hit LSU 17-7. With the Tigers looking to make their third straight trip to Omaha, a win by the Lions in the Box would be impressive on their tournament resume. (As a note wear green when the Lions play LSU.)

May 20-22 - Northwestern State - Alumni Field
The regular season finale will be played on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday against in-state rival Northwestern State. The Lions will be looking to finish strong with a series win against the Demons and gain momentum going into the SLC tournament. Saturday will be “Senior Day” where the Lion seniors will play their last home game at Alumni Field.
