Lions Win Series in Impressive Fashion

Sunday night in front of an ESPN audience the Southeastern Lions put on a display of what a complete team looks like.  What you saw were the Lions getting seven hits, drawing seven walks by forcing FIU pitchers into unfavorable counts, three batters were hit by pitches, two monster HR's, and they forced the Panther's into five errors.   And let's not forget the pitching gem senior RHP Tyler Watkins threw.

Lions Fall 8-3, Look to Clinch Series on Sunday

What began as the Garrett Wittels chasing history series has slowly developed into a heavyweight fight between two mid-majors showing the nation they are ready to play on the big stage.  After SLU landed a vicious right hook on Friday with a 10-2 win, the Panthers picked themselves up off of the canvas with a 8-2 win on Saturday to even the series.  The rubber match on Sunday is set for Sunday at 6:30.  The game can be seen on ESPN3.com.  As of Saturday evening ESPN was not sure if the game will be televised on ESPNU.

Good morning Lion Nation.  Let me first apologize for not getting an entry on the blog up this morning from the game last night.  But Scully's here in Miami was calling our name last night after the Lions 10-2 beat down over FIU.

Southeastern Baseball Under Jay Artigues

Southeastern Louisiana baseball under Jay Artigues has been like having All State as your insurance provider...It is in good hands!  Since arriving in Hammond in 2006, Artigues has led the Lions to some "first" in program history such as:  4 consecutive 30+ wins seasons, 3 consecutive trips to the Southland Conference tournament, and the schools first 40 win season.  In the SLC, Artigues is one of two coaches (Ty Harrington of Texas State) in the last 5 seasons to win 40 games and one of three coaches (Harrington & Jim Gilligan of Lamar) to win at least 30 games the last four seasons.

Inside Lions Baseball takes a look at Southeastern Baseball during the Jay Artigues Era.  Check it out.

Great Day to be a Lion

Bear Sparacino vs. Chris Franklin
Sunshine.  Blue Sky.  And the ping of a well struck pearl.

The 2011 Lions faced off today against Team Alumni.  What a beautiful day to be at Alumni Field?!

And our Lions didn't disappoint; neither team!  The current guys posted 15 runs and terrific defense and pitching; while Team Alumni only plated one run but their efforts at the plate and in the field were amazing. The guys seemed to have a great time playing the game they all love and entertaining Lion baseball fans.

Veteran Lions Tag Newcomers

It was a packed ballroom as the 2011 team was introduced to the Lion Nation.  Senior Tyler Watkins called up the new additions and the veteran players anointed them with their coveted Lion for Life tags.  Watkins explained that whether you're a 1,2,3,4 or 5 year member of the ball club, to be part of the team means that you're a Lion for life!

Expectations are Great; Team Accepts Challenge

At the annual spring banquet, Coach Jay Artigues addressed the crowd and one thing he spoke of was the upcoming schedule.  He noted that it's a very challenging one and that his squad was mature and talented enough to face it head on.
It was obvious after listening to Artigues and senior speakers Cass Hargis & Josh Cryer, that the bar has definitely been raised within the Lions baseball program. This club is primed to set higher standards and bring a championship to the Lion Nation; and it seems that they won't accept anything less!
So I challenge you, Lion baseball fans, to show your support and pack THE PAT beginning with the home opener against Tulane on Tuesday, February 22 at 6pm

Go Green! Go Gold! GO LIONS
