Lions Get Series Win Over Lamar

The SLU Lions picked up a huge series win over Lamar this weekend in Hammond.  After dropping game one on Friday night 3-1 the Lions roared back on Saturday and Sunday winning their second SLC series of the season.

On Saturday Tyler Watkins was as cool as the other side of the pillow, as he held the Cardinals to one run on just 6 hits in the Lions 8-1 victory.  Watkins pitched his 2nd complete game of the season and ran his record to 5-0.  Freshman OF Britt Gautreaux sparked the Lions at the plate with his 1st career home run in the 2nd inning, going 2-4 on the day with 3 RBIs.

In the rubber match on Sunday SLU cruised to a 5-1 win and took the series behind a strong outing by Josh Janway, Joseph Koon, and Stefan Lopez.  The Lions trio combined to hold Lamar to just one run on nine hits, striking out six and only issuing two walks.

SLU sits at 19-10 overall on the season and 7-5 in the SLC.  In the SLC standings the Lions are currently tied for 3rd with Lamar and Texas-Arlington, three games behind leader Texas State.  The Lions will be on the road the next two weekends when they face Texas-Arlington and Texas State.
