Cryer, Watkins Trump Jacks

Josh Cryer was 4-4 with 2 RBI and Tyler Watkins pitched a complete game 7 hitter as the SLU Lions beat Stephen F Austin 7-1 in Nacogdoches, TX. With the win the Lions improve to 37-14 and 19-9 in the SLC. The Lions now sit in sole possession of 2nd place in the standings, two games behind Texas State.

The 37 wins match last season’s total and with one more victory the Lions will tie the school record for wins set by the 1992 and 1993 teams. The victory was also a milestone for Coach Jay Artigues, as he now has 163 career wins which is 3rd best in program history, passing John Stephenson (1985-90).

SLU ripped 14 hits off of 4 Lumberjack pitchers. Seven Lion starters recorded a hit with five of them having a multi hit day. Coach Riser, sporting his hard hat, was busy at first base. The final line on Watkins, who is now 5-3 on the season and was facing the SLC’s top hitting team, was 1 unearned run on 7 hits and 2 strikeouts over 9 innings.

The Lions and Jacks meet again today at 2:00pm.

Congrats Coach Artigues on your milestone victory!
