SLU Takes Series From Colonels

After winning game two of their Southland Conference series with Nicholls State on Saturday the SLU Lions were determined to keep the momentum going as they entered the rubber match in Thibodaux on Sunday. The steady rain couldn’t even stop the Lions as they collected 13 hits and the pitching staff tallied 10 strikeouts in their 14-5 victory over the Colonels. With the win the Lions move to 33-13 overall and 15-9 in SLC play.

Jordan Hymel, Josh Janway, and Tyler Watkins combined to hold the Colonels to 5 runs on 9 hits. Hymel struck out six and Watkins struck out four. At the plate every Lion starter reached base safely and 8 of the 9 recorded a hit. Cass Hargis led the way going 3-6 with 2 RBI. With his three hits Hargis moved into 2nd place on the SLU all time hits list, passing Macky Waguespack with 211 career hits.

SLU returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
