SLU Comes Out Swinging, Takes Series From Sam Houston

The SLU bats heated up, as every Lion starter collected a hit and Chris Franklin threw his third straight complete game in their 8-6 come from behind win over Sam Houston State. With their 7th Southland Conference series win the Lions improve to 35-14 overall and 17-9 in SLC play.

After being down 6-0 SLU put a 5 spot on the board in the 4th inning. The Lions then came back and scored the tying run in the 7th inning on a Cody Gougler RBI double to right field. In the 8th Brock Hebert’s triple scored Alex Marse, who pinch ran for Chris Ernest after he singled. Hebert scored on a Trey Martin ground out to finishing out the scoring at 8-6.

Franklin, making is third start of the season, gave up 6 runs (3 of which were earned) on 9 hits and struck out 8. He ran his record to 7-4, 3-0 as a starter.

The Lions will look to give their mothers a Mothers Day sweep tomorrow as they play the finale of the series at 1:00 pm at “The Pat”.
