Bats Heat Up, Lions Scorch Mississippi Valley

On a cold night at “The Pat” the Lions warmed things up by bringing out the hot bats in a 15-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State. With the win SLU improves to 4-0 on the season, making it the first 4-0 start since 1998.

The Lions pounded out 13 hits, as 7 of them went for extra bases. Jeff Harkensee bashed his way to a 3-3 night with a 2B, a towering HR and 3 runs scored to lead the Lions. Cass Hargis finished the night 2-4 with a 3B and 3 RBI. Freshman second baseman Brock Hebert also recorded 2 hits to go along with his 2 RBI and 4 runs scored. Joe Sparacino launched a 3 run pinch hit rocket over the right field wall in the 5th inning busting the game open.

On the mound Jay Artigues used 7 different pitchers who limited the Delta Devils to only 3 hits on the night and struck out 12. Senior Ryan Boudreaux earned his first win of the season as he pitched 3 scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits and fanning 2 Devils. Freshman Jordan Hymel was impressive on the mound once again as he struck out three of the four batters he faced in the 8th inning.

SLU will return to action this weekend as they hit the road for the first time this season to face SEC contender Mississippi State in Starkville, MS Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Bulldogs are also 4-0 on the season.
