Stefan Lopez is one of 45 players named to the mid-season watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Stopper of the Year award. The Stopper of the Year Award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.
Lopez, a junior from New Iberia, LA, is the SLU All-Time Saves leader with 22 career saves. The hard throwing closer also holds the school's single season saves record with 12 saves so far this season in 16 appearances. Lopez carries a 0.54 ERA in 16.2 innings of work with 25 strike outs and is holding opponents to a .148 batting average.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released Wednesday, June 6, prior to start of NCAA Super Regional tournament competition. The winner will be announced at the 2012 College World Series.
