Junior closer Stefan Lopez became the program's All-Time Saves leader with his 20th career save on Friday night in the Lions 2-1 victory over Lamar. Lopez passed Chris Franklin, who racked up 19 saves during his two year (2009-10) career in Hammond. With his 20 saves Lopez is five saves shy of the All-Time Southland Conference career record of 25 held by Zach Calhoon (2007-09) of Texas-San Antonio.
Lopez has 87 career strike outs to go along with his 20 saves and 2-3 career record. This season the New Iberia native has 10 saves in 12 appearances with 18 strike outs over 11.2 innings pitched. The SLU single season saves record is 12 held by Chris Franklin during the 2009 season. The SLC record is 18 held by Luke Prihoda of Sam Houston State during the 2007 season.
Congrats Stefan!
