Another weekend at The Pat. Another series sweep for the Lions. With a lineup fueled by Brock Hebert and Jonathan Pace, an impressive bullpen, and a gem of game pitched by Jordan Hymel, SLU swept the visiting Texas-Arlington Mavericks to move to 18-6 on the season and 6-3 in the Southland Conference. The Lions are now 13-1 this season at the friendly confines of The Pat with three weekend series sweeps.
Over the three game series the Lions out scored the Mavericks 18-10, as they out hit them 33-20. This against one of the top pitching duos in the SLC. SLU was lead at the plate by Brock Hebert (7-10, .700)and Jonathan Pace (7-11, .636) who both extended their hitting streaks (Hebert-18, Pace-16). On Friday night with the game tied at seven in the bottom of the 9th and a runner on second, the Mavs walked Hebert to pitch to Pace. Pace calmly lined a single into right field for the walk off 8-7 victory.
On Saturday the day belonged to Jordan Hymel. Hymel shutout the Mavericks in a three hit gem that saw him pitch 8.2 innings while fanning five. Stefan Lopez came in to record his 8th save of the season in the Lions 4-0 win.
Wearing the solid gold sweep uniforms on Sunday the Lions didn't disappoint. Jonathan Pace went 3-3 and freshman Brett Hoffman went 2-4 with two doubles, as the Lions won 6-3 to earn the sweep. Jason Greenleaf continued his solid pitching out of the bullpen, as he pitched 2.2 innings in relief earning the win. Closer Stefan Lopez picked up his 9th save of the season, giving him 19 in his career. He is now tied with Chris Franklin as the All-Time Saves leader at SLU.
