After a tough midweek loss to Tulane on Tuesday night the SLU Lions were looking to rebound in a three team round robin in Lake Charles against Central Michigan and McNeese State. In game one of a double header on Friday the weekend got off to a rocky start, as the Lions suffered their 2nd consecutive loss 7-6 to Central Michigan.
Joseph Koon gave up three runs on four hits and fanned eight Chippewas over 6 innings. In relief Jason Greenleaf and Dylan Hills combined to walk four batters, hit one, and give up four runs. Offensively the Lions were paced by Harry Slade, Michael Rutland, and Cody Gougler who each had two hits.
In the 2nd half of the the double header, this time facing McNeese State, the bats heated up for SLU as they pounded out 14 hits in a 9-1 non-conference victory. Jordan Hymel picked up the win as he went seven strong innings giving up one run on four hits and issuing one walk. Andro Cutura entered in relief and struck out four Cowboys and gave up one hit in his two innings of work. Eight Lions recorded a hit in the game, with four Lions getting at least two hits led by Jonathan Pace's 4-5 day.
In their get away game on Saturday the Lions got revenge on Central Michigan by stealing a school single game record 10 bases in the 8-1 win, running their record to 9-2 on the season. Both Harry Slade and Brock Hebert stole three bases each leading the robbery ring. Even catcher Jacob Fisher got into the act as he stole the 2nd base of his career. Pace, Fisher, and Ben Hernandez each had two hits. Josh Janway picked up his 2nd win giving up one run on three hits and fanning three.
