From the Dugout With Tyler Watkins

Tyler Watkins
To get an inside look at what it is like to be a member of the 2011 Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team, ILB has asked senior RHP Tyler Watkins to write a weekly journal giving the Lion Nation a behind the scenes look at one of the top programs in the Southland Conference. To read all of Tyler's weekly journals you can click on his picture on the left menu.

Here is journal #4 for the 2011 season.

Well hello there Lion Nation! It’s been a while since the last time I wrote a journal and a lot has happened since then. We went down to Mobile and won the South Alabama Classic, took a tough loss at LSU, and split a four game series with Sacred Heart. It has definitely been a week full of ups and downs. We currently stand at 8-4 on the year and are looking forward to our game against ULL Wednesday and travelling to San Antonio to start conference play this weekend.

Conference play is the most important part of the season and we’re ready to get it started and prove we are the best team in the Southland Conference. There is a lot we do to get ready for the baseball season and for conference play like practice, lift weights, look at scouting reports, and conditioning. One other thing most of us guys on the team do every couple weeks, especially before a weekend series is get a fresh haircut. We like to look good before we go out there and play, and like the old saying goes “you look good, you play good”. To get a nice clean haircut you have to go to someone that can really cut hair, and for most of our team that person is RHP Jacob Ott. Jacob is like an artist with scissors. He also has the best price in town, FREE! Which, as college athletes, is about all we can afford. He can give you a fade, a high and tight, a trim, a taper, or my personal favorite the old fashioned buzz cut. Jacob will have you feeling like a new man ready to take on the world when you leave his apartment, or barbershop I should say. Jacob is so popular with the team that he has to set certain days of the week aside just to cut hair. So lion fans, when you see us run on to the field and take our hats off for the National Anthem, take a moment to admire our great heads of hair and be sure to tell Jacob he did a great job.

Well MANEiacs, I’m about to walk on over to Jacob Ott’s apartment to get my haircut before the rush comes in tomorrow. Before I go I want take this time to thank the fans that have been coming to our games. It was good seeing all of you out at “The Pat” and I look forward to seeing more and more of you each home game throughout the season. It was especially nice to see the Kenelly family out in full force to support us this weekend as well.

Hope to see you all at “The Pat” tonight at 6pm for our game against ULL!!
