The SLU Lions made it six straight victories over in-state rival UL-Lafayette, as they beat the Ragin Cajuns 7-5 on Wednesday night at "The Pat", running their record to 9-4 on the season. The Lions are now 4-1 against the Sun Belt Conference during the 2011 season.
Jeff Harkensee's 1st inning two run home run to right field gave the Lions the lead that they would never relinquish. Jordan Hymel pitched 5.1 strong innings earning his 2nd win of the season, as he gave up three runs on four hits and struck out three. Stefan Lopez shut the door on ULL as he entered the game in the ninth with a runner on. Lopez got a fly out to center and then struck out the next two Cajuns sealing the win.
SLU opens Southland Conference play this weekend as they travel to San Antonio, TX to face UTSA in a three game series.
