Coming off a weekend where the SLU bats and pitchers dominated UTSA for a series sweep, the Lions were on the other side of the spectrum against McNeese State on Friday and Saturday. In Friday's game the Cowboys put up five runs in the first three innings and finished the game with 11 hits, as they didn't look back in their 8-4 win. Offensively the Lions could not get anything going, as they stranded eight runners.
McNeese's bats stayed red hot on Saturday as they racked up 18 hits in their series clinching 9-4 victory. When the Cowboys put up three runs in the in the top of the 3rd, SLU answered with two runs. However, McNeese came right back with three more runs in the top of the 4th.
With their backs against the wall, the Lions roared out of the gates on Sunday. SLU jumped on the Cowboys early, as they scored three runs in the 1st inning on their way to 8-4 win. Tyler Watkins cooled the Cowboy's bats, as he held them to four runs on four hits and struck out five over 7.2 innings. Stefan Lopez finished off the Cowboys surrendering one hit and striking out one.
With the win the Lions move to 13-7 overall and 4-2 in SLC. After two weekends of SLC play, SLU currently sits in 4th place in the standings, two games back of leaders Texas State and Stephen F. Austin.
