It was back to playing "Lions Baseball" on Sunday as SLU swept the double header from Sacred Heart, winning game one 10-0 and game two 11-3 to run their record to 8-3 on the season. The Lions were the aggressor in all phases of the game all evening.
In the two games combined the pitching was dominant, as six pitchers combined to hold the Pioneers to three runs on 11 hits, striking out 11. The hitters, running the Pioneers pitch count up, put up 21 runs on 20 hits. Of the 20 hits eight went for extra bases (5 2B & 3 3B). And the defense was solid in both games.
Stat of the Day: Nine, that is right nine Lion hitters were hit by pitches in the two games combined. None bigger than the one that nine hole hitter Trey Martin took in the middle of the 2 on the back of his jersey. In the 4th inning of game one with two outs and the Lions leading 2-0, Martin got hit on what apparently was an intentionally plunk (the Pioneers took exception to a Martin hit by pitch earleir in the game). Once again it was "Lions Baseball" at its best. SLU went on to score eight runs in the 4th, all with two outs. At that point it was game, set, match as the Lions took control of the series.
