Crimson Tide Downs Lions

For the first time this season the SLU Lions were beat at home during a mid-week contest, as they fell to SEC power Alabama 10-5 before a season high crowd of 2,108. With the loss the Lions drop to 27-8 and now turn their attention to a Southland Conference showdown with Texas State at “The Pat” this weekend.

SLU’s night was highlighted by a 4 run 3rd inning which got the Lion Nation fired up when Cody Gougler launched a 2 run homerun to left field to pull the Lions even at 4. But the tie was short lived as the Crimson Tide scored 2 runs in the 4th to pull ahead for good 6-4. Alabama added 3 more runs in the 7th and SLU plated a run in the home half of the 7th as Alabama led 9-5. In the 9th Bama was able to add another run  finishing out the scoring.

SLU was led at the plate by Gougler who finished the night 2-4 with a HR, 2 RBI and a run scored. Cass Hargis was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Josh Cryer finished the night 2-4 with a run scored.

The Lions return to action this weekend with a 3 game SLC series against 1st place Texas State. SLU trails State by 2 games in the standings.
