The #22 ranked SLU Lions dropped their first mid-week game of the season as they fell to South Alabama 12-11 in Mobile, AL. The Lions are now 24-6 on the season as they enter a crucial 8 game home stand.
South Alabama rallied from 4 down twice in the game as the Lions led 5-1 going into the bottom of the 2nd and 11-7 after 6 complete. Overall it was one of the best offensive performances SLU has had all year as they pounded out 13 hits, with 8 of them going for extra bases. However, SLU issued 7 walks and hit 6 Jaguar batters. Jeff Harkensee led the Lions at the plate as he finished a HR shy of the cycle. Harkensee was 4-5 with 2 2B, 3B, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Justin Boudreaux and Brock Hebert both homered for the Lions.
SLU returns to action this weekend in a pivotal SLC series matchup with Texas-Arlington at “The Pat” in Hammond. The Mavericks currently sit in 6th place in the conference standings but trail the 2nd place Lions by 1 game. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm. Saturday’s start time is slated for 2:00 and the series finale on Sunday starts at 1:00.
