Efferson Goes the Distance, Lions Stick it to Texas State

The SLU Lions came into their weekend series against Texas State with a chip on their shoulder. Last season with first place on the line in the SLC standings the Lions were swept by Texas State in San Marcos, TX. This season SLU was looking to make a statement. Friday night at “The Pat” the Lions made their statement by beating the Bobcats 10-1.

Brandon Efferson pitched a complete game gem by giving up 1 run on 9 hits and picking up his conference leading 7th win of the season. The Lions defense sparkled as right fielder Cody Gougler made two outstanding run saving catches and Chris Franklin made some big league plays on the hot corner.

At the plate the Lions were lead by Joe Sparacino who went 3-4 with a 2B and RBI. Brock Hebert was 2-4 with 2 RBI.

With the win the #23 ranked Lions move to 28-8 overall and 11-5 in the SLC. The win moves SLU within a game of Texas State for the top spot in the standings. The series resumes on Saturday with a 2:00 start time.

Notes: With his 2run 2B in the 8th inning Cass Hargis registered his 200th career hit.
