Lions Run Record to 16-1

The #17 ranked SLU Lions moved to 16-1 on the season with their 9-4 victory over in-state rival UL-Lafayette in Lafayette. With the win the Lions extend their winning streak over the Ragin Cajuns to 5 games. This is the second consecutive season that SLU has swept the season series.

At the plate the Lions were led by Cody Gougler who was 3-5 with a 2B, 2 RBI and 1 run scored. Cass Hargis went 2-5 with a 3B, RBI, and a run scored and Josh Cryer was 2-5 with a RBI and run scored. Justin Boudreaux extended his hitting streak to 9 games with his run scoring single in the 6th inning.

Freshman Jordan Hymel pushed his record to 3-0 as he gave up 3 runs on 9 hits through 5 innings of work. Stefan Lopez, another freshman, came in to pitch the final 4 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits to earn his 1st career save.

The Lions are on a roll as are the Lion faithful. Filling up a section of the bleacher seats, the Lion Nation was heard loud & clear throughout the stadium. And spotted in the box seats as a lone wearer of the green and gold was former Lion shortstop Scott Viator, a Lafayette native, who was rooting his former team onto victory.

Looking forward to a road trip to take on conference rival McNeese State, we say GO LIONS….see you in Lake Charles!
