The #21 ranked SLU Lions will face CUSA member and in-state rival Tulane on Tuesday night in Hammond for game 1 of the Senators’ Cup. First pitch is slated for 6:00pm. Game 2 of the Senators’ Cup will be played in New Orleans on April 20.
The Senators’ Cup, which is named in honor of the late John Hainkel, currently resides in Hammond with the Lions, as SLU won game 1 5-3 at Tulane then clinched the Cup the next night with 11-9 victory in Hammond. Tulane won game 3 6-3. Due to Tulane canceling one game this season the teams will only play two games.
NOTES:
SLU’s top hitters are Justin Boudreaux (.361, 6 HR, 30 RBI, .480 OBP), Jeff Harkensee (.351, 11 2B, 3 HR, 20 RBI), Cass Hargis (.346, 11 2B, 4 3B, 22 RBI) and Cody Gougler (.333, 3 HR, 22 RBI). As a team the Lions are hitting .299.
The SLU pitching staff sports a 3.32 ERA and opponents are hitting .256 against them.
Tulane is hitting .317 as team and is lead by Blake Crohan (.408, 2 HR, 15 RBI), Brandon Boudreaux (.400, HR, 16 RBI), and Rob Segedin (.381, 3 HR, 21 RBI).
Tulane’s team ERA is 3.85 and teams are hitting .247 against them.
Since the series resumed in 2007 the Lions are 5-4 against the Green Wave, winning 2 of the last three season series.
This will be only Tulane’s 3rd road game of the season. The Green Wave are 0-2 on the road this season.
High Scoring in Hammond - Over the last two seasons the Lions have won high scoring games in Hammond. In 2008 the lions won 12-11 and last season they won 11-9.
