Lions Win…Sets School Record

Riding a 10 game winning streak to start the season, the #29 ranked Southeastern Lions took advantage of three Texas Southern errors and beat the Tigers 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. With the win the Lions move to 11-0 on the season and sets the school record for most consecutive wins, passing the 1964 and 1997 teams. The victory also gives SLU its 3rd straight series win this year.

The Lions got 3 runs in the 3rd inning when Brock Hebert laid down a bunt and the throw the 1st base was wide scoring Cody Gougler and Phil Freeman. Hebert was able to advance to third. Two batters later Trey Martin laid down his team leading 5th sacrifice bunt scoring Hebert.

With the score 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Gougler doubled to left. Freeman reached on an error that allowed Gougler to score closing out the scoring for the day. Gougler led the Lions at the plate going 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

Brandon Efferson (3-0) earned the win going 6.2 innings. Efferson struck out 6, surrendering 1 run on 3 hits. Josh Janway got his second save of the season as he pitched 2.1 innings of no hit baseball and held the Tigers scoreless.

The Lions will be going for their 3rd straight series sweep on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00.
