Southeastern ran its record to 12-1 as they beat the Southern Jaguars at Lee-Hines Field in Baton Rouge Tuesday night. The Lions capped off an impressive start to the 2010 season as they head into conference play this weekend against Texas-San Antonio at the “The Pat”.
The Lions jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked backed. A Justin Boudreaux homerun in the 3rd inning made the score 5-0 Lions. Southern then scored 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th before Josh Cryer launched his first homerun of the season, giving the Lions a 6-3 cushion. However, the Jaguars answered with 2 runs of their own in the bottom half of the 6th to pull within 1 run. SLU finished out the scoring as they tacked on 2 more runs in top of the ninth with Boudreaux and Jeff Harkensee hitting back to back doubles.
The Lions were led at the plate by the hot hitting Boudreaux, who extending his hitting streak to 5 games. Boudreaux was 2-4 with a 2B, HR, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Jeff Harkensee was 3-5 with a 2B and 3 RBI. Cass Hargis added 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
Jordan Hymel, making his first collegiate start, collected his second win of the season. Hymel went 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits. Justin Schneider came on in relief in the 6th and surrendered 2 runs on 4 hits. Josh Janway earned the save as he faced the minimum in the bottom of the 9th.
