Streak Comes to a Halt as Lions Lose in 12 Innings

During their record setting 11 game winning streak the #29 ranked SLU Lions have found a way to deliver a knockout punch to their opponent. On Sunday afternoon at “The Pat” the Lions couldn’t find a way to deliver the knockout punch. Texas Southern, however, delivered the knockout as a Ray Hernandez bases loaded triple gave the Tigers a 6-1 victory. The loss drops the Lions to 11-1 on the season.

The SLU bats went cold on Sunday as they scratched their way to seven hits, with four coming over the course of the 10th, 11th, and 12th innings. Both Justin Boudreaux and Chris Franklin recorded two hits apiece. Cass Hargis, Jeff Harkensee, and Josh Cryer had the other three hits.

Tanner Lorenz pitched 7.1 strong innings giving up no runs on 5 hits and striking out 7. Chris Franklin entered the game in the 7th and recorded three strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Franklin surrendered 1 run on three hits. Tyler Watkins made is first relief appearance of the season in the 12th inning as he gave up 5 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits. Joel Sessions got his first work of the season as he got the last two outs of the inning.

The 11-1 Lions return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Lee-Hine Field in Baton Rouge to battle the Southern Jaguars. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm.
